Germaine Wright Sobral

Germaine Wright Sobral received her JD from The Georgetown University Law Center in 1981.  She is a 1978 graduate of Wellesley College where she majored in Political Science and Spanish.   She was admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia in 1982 and in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1983.   She is authorized to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the Supreme Court of Virginia and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.   Ms. Sobral is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. 

Ms. Sobral’s legal career has been devoted to the representation of immigrants.   She  has represented thousands of immigrants in the past 30 years and has the depth of knowledge and  understanding  that comes from the experience of  having handled thousands of  immigration  cases .    Ms. Sobral has represented clients in obtaining nonimmigrant visas such as tourists, students, H1B professionals, artists, investors, intra-company transferees,  fiancées and others.    Ms. Sobral has also represented clients in obtaining their permanent residence based on family petitions, employment petitions, diversity visa applications, asylum adjustments, NACARA,  special immigrant petitions, and others.    In addition Ms. Sobral handled U visas for victims of crimes and Violence Against Women Act self-petitions.    Ms. Sobral has zealously represented hundreds of clients before the Immigration Courts across the country defending them against removal from the United States.   One of Ms. Sobral’s greatest sources of pride is when she finally represents a client in the process of becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States. 

Ms. Sobral  and her law partner participate weekly in a radio program “Todo Sobre Inmigracion” where they provide the community information about immigration  developments and answer caller questions.  Over the years Ms. Sobral has volunteered her time and services to the immigrant community in numerous citizenship drives,  by volunteering at a local consulate to assist its nationals with immigration issues, and by teaching  ESL and citizenship classes.  

Ms. Sobral also handles domestic relations matters  in Virginia.  She has represented parties in both contested and uncontested divorces, and  has represented both mothers and fathers in child custody, visitation and support matters.    Ms. Sobral also has experience in adoption and paternity matters.    

Ms. Sobral is fluent in Spanish and French.
