STUDENT VISAS (F1)
In order to obtain a student visa, an applicant must be admitted to a
CIS approved school and issued an I-20 Certificate of Eligibility. The
applicant must be able to demonstrate the financial ability to pay for
the schooling and related expenses and that he is a bona fide non- immigrant
who intends to return to his home country upon completion of the course of
study. Most students obtain student visas through their home embassies
although it can be possible to change from a tourist to a student visa in
the United States. In order to do so, the applicant must either inform
the U.S. consul of their intentions when they apply for a tourist visa, or
must be able to prove that their intention to study arose after they entered
the United States. Students may work on campus while they are in school, and
may work for outside employers in some circumstances with CIS approval. The
spouse and children of an F visa holder are eligible for F2 visas.
Our firm has helped many applicants to obtain student visas; we have also
been successful in getting student visas reinstated after a status violation.
